Chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Connie Mack (FL-14) today introduced the bipartisan House companion to Senate legislation to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

Mack said: "Americans know what we need, we need more jobs and increased security and we need to build the Keystone XL pipeline. Our bill combines the largest coalition across the House and the Senate to swiftly approve the construction of this job creating project. Mr. President, Congress is ready, the American people are ready, we ask you to stop delaying progress."

Chairman Mack has been an early and vocal supporter of the Keystone XL pipeline, supporting legislation and leading Member letters to the Secretary of State and the President over the past year. Mack also held the first hearing on Keystone XL on March 31st of last year, in which witnesses made the case that constructing the Keystone XL pipeline would create jobs and allow the U.S. to end its dependence on Venezuelan oil.

The Energizing America through Employment Act utilizes Congress' constitutional authority to regulate foreign commerce, while closing loopholes and clarifying the process for approval and administration of the pipeline. It builds the largest coalition across the House and the Senate, and allows immediate construction of the pipeline outside of Nebraska, leaving the Governor of Nebraska with the authority to determine the route within the state of Nebraska.
